Experience and Story
This is a two dimensional story and strategy game like a bards tale. It does not have arcade action, or 3D avatars.
One of the most major components in the computer game side of Rifters is story. The adventurer can choose to go to different adventure zones. Each has different semi-random encounters and quests. The Player makes a series of choices, fight, explore, steal, run away each with different rewards, risks, paths to explore. The character's many stats affect its ability to fight or perform tasks. Each zone has a main quest that must be uncovered and completed to access the final zone, the Rift.
